Danfield Audio history:

Danfield Audio is a Danish design company that was founded in 1982 by the talented sound engineer Freddy Albrektsen.

For many years it was simply known as Danfield Productions. Then in 2007, it became a limited company and was renamed Danfield Audio.

His initial inspiration to form a design and manufacturing company came from the countless hours that he spent mixing, engineering and providing technical support in studios all over Scandinavia. From the beginning, Danfield was involved in the provision of highly customized audio solutions for studios, broadcasters, post-production houses and live events organizers.

In 1983, the first product released was a custom-built split console for broadcasting and music recording. From that experience, came a range of custom microphone amplifiers and M/S encoder - decoders. High quality proprietary filters and limiter systems were developed and well as special studio monitor-cue systems.

In 1984, a custom in-line console was build and designed for Freddy’s own commercial studio. (It is of note that this very first Danfield in-line console is still alive and well. It is currently owned by a Danish band specializing in techno and house music - mixing up a funky blend of the old and the new.)

However, it was the first Danfield compressor system that achieved a special status and success with mixing engineers. The 716 mono RMS compressor was mass-produced from 1992 onwards, alongside with the 726 model – a 1U fast peak detection design.

Throughout the 1990’s Danfield focused on improving and enhancing their product range with new mic - preamplifiers such as the mx10.

Danfield had also begun to receive more and more high profile custom build projects. An interesting example of this is the Spectral Converter. This was developed to supply a special need – to create an analog audio transfer system that coverts broadband audio frequency content to visible light. The system ended up being as a teaching tool to train people with hearing difficulties. They could learn pronunciation and vocal skills by memorizing light patterns, shapes and color blends. The system has also been seen in key national sculptural art environments.

Musical sound scapes played live would be converted into chains of optical events simultaneously to give an exciting interactive public display – all this achieved with no software or computer control.

From 2001 onwards, the company adapted to changing needs in the audio industry, where bespoke solutions for audio problems were needed. From these custom build projects came the experience that enabled Danfield in the to release high performance personal monitor systems, headphone amplifiers and DI boxes for live applications.

In 2007 Danfield Audio released a series of redesigned high performance microphone preamplifiers, and headphone amps that allowed the company to grow an worldwide client base for the very first time.
The beginning of 2009 saw the introduction of the monitor2 – a studio controller considered by many to be the best sounding audio controller in its sector. A new recording channel followed (the mx30e), designed specifically for high-end voice tracking applications. Both have achieved an excellent reputation, and have a steadily increasing client base, as the company became more widely known outside Scandinavia.

Danfield Audio systems have a very low failure rate - components and signal paths are chosen to give the highest level of performance and stability. We have built all our systems since 1982 in one location (Denmark), and that is not going to change any time soon. The goal for Danfield is above all to design and construct reliable and versatile tools for the audio industry - classically designed systems that meet the highest standards of sonic quality, yet remain flexible enough for the demanding applications that exist within modern studio environments.

These are exciting years for Danfield Audio. You are more than welcome to join the train.
