30.11.2010: Danfield Audio ships first MX20vpr modules to Cidade Maravilhosa...

Gabriel Pinheiro, chief engineer at Estudios Biscoito Fino in Rio de Janeiro, Brasil, took delivery of his first pair of MX20VPR mic pre amplifiers recently. The studios of Biscoito Fino are famous for their high quality sonics and their recordings usually end up on their sister companies record label. Gabriel, himself a three times Grammy award nominee, comments:

"As we needed to record some drums for a project we were carrying out, I put them to work right away on the stereo overheads. They sounded great, with 2 remarkable points: the hi-frequency response is very, very smooth, something I've always looked forward to in microphones and preamps. And second, the low cut is amazing, I guess it's the most musical one I've ever listened to.'

And here they are: at work amongst great company in a 500 series nest.

21.07.2010: Danfield Audio is moving... ...to new company location in August 2010.

The historic building where Danfield Audio will now be situated, was at the early part of the last century well known as a renowned paint factory - and it still has an history and charm all of its own. It has long since been taken over by media and design companies working in the film, TV and music industries. We are happy to add our little company to the address list. Please note: our address change will be valid as of end August.

18.06.2010: Danfield Audio supplies systems for innovative new music site...

An innovative, fresh approach to music performance had its internet launch recently. atmyplace invites artists to record a live performance in an unusual location, with an invited audience, and with no performance amplification whatsoever - asides from the microphones of course. This results in a truly personal and real acoustic performance from artists that are not allowed the luxury of hiding behind a wall of technology.

A smart idea needs smart recording gear. The recording engineers use a portfolio of wonderful vintage Neumann microphones - and Danfield Audio have provided a 716 rack dynamics rack and a r3 microphone preamplifier system for the amplifier and compression stages.
Cool idea, cool people, cool gear.

Check it out. http://cargocollective.com/atmyplace

04.05.2010: new 500 series compatible mx20vpr announced by Danfield Audio...

Our 500 series compatible microphone preamplifier.

In 2008 we were honored to be one of the first companies to be accepted as a member of the VPR Alliance - a design co-operation created by API, so that other companies can build modules that electronically conform to the popular range of API 500 series rack systems.

mx20vpr_news

It was also the very first transformerless microphone pre-amplifier to be approved within the VPR Alliance. The design of the mx20vpr is based upon our famous mx20 transformerless rack system, originally designed for classical tracking applications. And now it is ready for release. Find out more.

16.03.2010: mx30e package chosen for vocal tracking for new Haiku album...

haiku
The music of Henrik H is something to behold. It is music for awareness and absorption.
His compositional skill lends itself to all manner of musical forms (including a soundtrack for a soon to be released Scandinavian movie - more later).

Yet it is his work with his Haiku project that has garnered increasing attention worldwide. His latest work is no exception. Long time vocal collaborator on Haiku, Soeren Groenbaek chose the MX30e for it simplicity of use and soaring dynamics.

And so no more needs to be said - other than go listen, go download, go buy Haiku

14.07.2009: Feel good music news part 2 - summer edition:
sos
Silence of September, a band emanating from Copenhagen but with European roots as far away as Bosnia and Croatia, have spent nearly two years in hiatus, locked away writing songs, learning their craft, making a cool studio and spending every waking hour refining their art.
The conclusion of their efforts is an excellently recorded and produced demo CD of a selection of their tracks, many of which were recorded with MX10 pre amps.
And it was so good - they have been signed to the Warner Brothers label!
Silence of September say that they are inspired by "The little things between nothing and everything... "
Well, if the little things are hard work, bags of talent and dedication to your goal, then we believe them. http://www.myspace.com/silenceofseptember

pm2
The worlds foremost translation and dubbing company Sdimedia has recently purchased more PM2 headphone amplifiers for their facilities in Prague, Budapest and Latvia.

Engineers and actors alike have commented on the PM2s ability to reproduce a very natural, high quality, silky smooth sound.
More importantly, nice sound playback in the cans ultimately means that actors get less tired - and that is fundamental to a good voice performance.

23.05.2009: SA32 used for mastering of innovative jazz-classical crossover project:

In April, the eminent opera baritone, Stephen Milling recorded a new project with jazz artist Nikolaj Bentzon. The sessions were carried out using our MX20 - MX10 mic pre amps, and 716 - 726 dynamics racks.

Sound engineer Morten Buchert liked the results so much - he decided to use the SA32 summing amplifier for the mixdown and mastering at his Copenhagen base camp - Studio R.
The album is scheduled to be released in August - September.

recently recorded a new project with the eminent Danish jazz artist Nikolaj Bentzon. The sessions were carried out using our MX20 - MX10 mic pre amps, and 716 - 726 dynamics racks.
Sound engineer Morten Buchert commented 'The units we used were fabulous and the tracks sound amazing.... nothing less. I was very impressed with the '3 dimensional sound', the frequency response and the punch that the 716 package brought to the session. I tracked bass and the drums through them and was very happy. I got to the result in a jiffy !'
The album is currently being mastered and is scheduled for a summer release.

12.02.2009: The real meaning of garage band - Studio R of course! (Feel good music news part 1 - spring edition):

A new studio has opened up in Copenhagen in what was an old mechanics workshop. It was originally destined to be a rehearsal studio for the owners band, but little by little the idea changed into something far more challenging and exciting. The space slowly turned from an old two floor oily and dusty building - to an enlarged recording space. The floor levels were removed - and piece by piece a new recording studio was created.

All of this has been achieved largely with materials reclaimed, recycled, donated or haggled over to keep the prices as low as possible. The floor is made of ancient wood, rescued from the 1st floor when it was taken down, and a new floating floor was laid upon rubber isolation beams - rescued from decommissioned Danish National Railway train tracks!

Perfect. But why are we telling you this if it wasn't a Danfield Audio job?

Well apart from a little consultancy, encouragement and some sketches from us, the renovation was the work of one guy. The owner Rasmus, took on the job of renovating and building the entire facility - largely on his own. And he has done rather a good job.

And in a way, this is actually a contemporary example of how the studio industry actually started many many years ago. It was built by people just like Rasmus, who dared to not just dream - but also to go and create it; whatever it takes, then get it working and start a new story...So we think that this is a great piece of news for these economically challenged times, and proof that you can build your dream - even when your budget is tight and your bank manager is being a pain in the toxic asset. We take our hat off to you, and we wish you and your little big studio good luck in the future! (Now he's building the web site - we'll let you know when it is done. Ed.)

15.01.2009: Custom PM2 racks for Chapel Studios, London...and for Seattle USA:

pm6chapel
Chapel Studios: Producer and arranger Steve Williams listened to our stereo headphone PM2 system last year, and was so happy with the performance that he asked us if he could have six more to install at his wonderful studio facility in London, UK - Chapel Studios

And here it is. We call it the PM-26
The PM-26 features 6 X stereo PM2 performance headphone amplifiers, with balanced inputs and output linking, 6 position routing and individual power amplifier standby.
Please note: This is a custom solution for Steve and not yet part of our full product range. The good news is that a similar system will be released soon! Check back later.

PM2 goes to Seattle: Engineer Christopher Wilson asked us to build a custom PM2 with mono foldown, so that he could use the unit for accurate monitoring when setting up matched microphones in stereo configurations.
No problem..that was the easy bit. The hardest part was actually getting the unit to Christopher. When we shipped the unit, the entire City of Seattle was snowbound, switched off, at home, sitting by the log fire and toasting marshmallows. We kept getting messages back from our courier saying 'Delivery cannot be expedited due to extreme weather conditions'. Eventually we found a way. And Christopher is now a happy recording engineer.

Above: We now take no chances when shipping transatlantic...meet our team.

27.11.2008: MX20 mic preamp news desk - part 1:

Morten Rasmussen is a very precise sound engineer who accepts nothing less than excellence from his recording chain...and so he therefore selected two mx20 modules in an r2 package to power his matched pair of lovely dpa microphones. Apparently the combination is stunning.

But he couldn't wait to try his new toys out - and we didn't even have time to wrap and ship them. So here he is taking them from us - fresh from final calibration and test. And he didn't even want the cardboard box...

27.11.2008: MX20 mic preamp news desk - part 2:

Rune Westberg is one lucky guy.
Not only is he a multi-talented producer, mixer, songwriter and guitarist he is also a great dad and all round decent, down to earth awfully nice human being. Rune is originally from Denmark - but he now works from his base in LA.

But why he swapped the Danish 'joie de vivre' for the City of Angels - we still haven't worked it out yet. (Maybe it has something to do with great sunrises and sunsets, the endless pacific coast highway, great tamales, mojitos, californian wine, the Sunday Farmers’ Market in Hollywood where you can get the best watermelon lemonade in the world, the tar pits...the rest of California...and of course the music...Ed.)

Oh. I see.
Why are we saying all of this?

Well, we would like to congratulate Rune on the work that he did with AlphaBeat and their internationally acclaimed debut album 'This is AlphaBeat'.

The band, hailing from Denmark - has just gone interstellar. The album is packed full of perfectly crafted pop songs, that make you wanna smile and dance. Check it out.

17.09.2008 Latest 726 compressor goes to MacAudioLab in USA:

726
MacAudioLab, is a well known provider of advanced high quality training and instruction materials for engineers and producers who need to have an in-depth knowledge of MOTU software - such as Digital Performer. The MacAudioLab President, Michael Neal chose the 726 for his companies music projects. He comments:
'I tried this on some tracks (contemporary jazz and rock) and I was floored!  I had already mixed it through another system last week and the client loved it, but now it sounded EVEN BETTER!  The first thing I was blown away by was the stereo image - it was rock solid!  It has a whole other sound to it: High-fidelity with a beautiful stereo image.  The track sounded like a 'record' instead of just a 'mix'.  I like how the high-end is not destroyed when compressing a mix - this is something that occurs with a lot of buss comps even if they are not pushed hard.  The High-pass filter was a smart move and is a much needed feature on any buss comp; really lets the bass come through while the high-freq digital transients are chilled....I'm sure I'll have much more to say about it when I've had some more time with it, but consider me in awe of how great this product is!'

Sounds like he's a happy guy.... know more about MacAudioLab: go to macaudiolab

02.01.2008 Custom projects part 1: M-S enc/dec solution delivered to top Danish sound designer
In the world of cinema sound, the name of Jan Juhler needs no introduction. Nevertheless, he will get one anyway.
Jan has been at the top of Scandinavian cinematic sound recording and mixing for over three decades, and is known around the world for his work. Furthermore, he is a highly talented engineering designer and creator - and has invented a number of products that are patented and commercially available in both the consumer and professional spheres.

So it was with great pride that Danfield Audio took on his latest little design project.
He required Danfield Audio to design a rack mounted hybrid 4 channel MS decoder encoder, linked up to a stripped down Sonic Maximizer processing unit - all in the same 1U box, and all powered by a 12V battery. The unit was battery driven so that it could be used for remote location sound recording applications.
And with the design producing an overall total current drain of about 90mA, it was thus achieved.
Jan is happy. Therefore, so are we.

He is off to remotely record something now. He could be anywhere...
